Hydration: Your Skin Needs It More Than You Think

Hydration: Your Skin Needs It More Than You Think

We hear it all the time: “Drink more water!” But hydration goes far beyond avoiding dry skin. Water plays an essential role in how our cells function — and when it comes to healthy, glowing skin, hydration matters both inside and out.

Your Skin Is Made of Cells — and Cells Need Water

Every cell in your body depends on water to function properly. Water helps support nutrient transport, waste removal, temperature regulation and normal cellular processes.

Your skin is no exception.

When your body is adequately hydrated, you’re supporting the environment your skin cells need to function at their best. But here’s an important distinction: drinking more water alone won’t necessarily fix dry or dehydrated skin.

Dry Skin vs. Dehydrated Skin

They’re actually two different things.

Dry skin lacks oil and is generally considered a skin type.

Dehydrated skin lacks water and can happen to any skin type — even oily or acne-prone skin.

Dehydrated skin may look dull, feel tight, show fine lines more prominently or simply lose that healthy, plump appearance we associate with glowing skin.

And as we head into cooler weather, lower humidity, indoor heating and temperature changes can make it even harder for the skin to hold onto moisture.

Hydration Is an Inside + Outside Job

Think of healthy skin hydration as a team effort.

Hydrate internally. Drink fluids consistently throughout the day and incorporate water-rich foods into your diet.

Support your skin barrier. Your barrier helps prevent water from escaping from the skin. Over-exfoliating, harsh cleansers and overly aggressive products can compromise it and increase moisture loss.

Use the right topical ingredients. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin help attract water, while moisturizers containing barrier-supporting lipids help keep that hydration where you want it — in your skin.

Adjust with the seasons. The skincare routine that worked beautifully all summer may need a little extra support as temperatures and humidity begin to drop.

Hydrated Skin Is Happy Skin

Hydration isn’t about chasing a temporary “glow.” It’s part of supporting healthy skin function.

When we combine proper internal hydration with professional treatments, thoughtful home care and a healthy skin barrier, we’re creating an environment where your skin can look and function its best.

So consider this your reminder: fill up your water bottle, moisturize that beautiful face, and give your skin a little extra love as we head into fall.
